ON TSNHALF A CENTURY OF SPEED
Nelson International Raceway held the first motorcycle road race on Thanksgiving weekend in 1976, on what is now the Shannonville Motorsport Park Nelson Circuit. Almost fifty years later, RACE Moto is hosting a 50th Anniversary race weekend, September 25 to 27.
The 50th Anniversary carries special significance both on and off the track. The on-track racing is brought to you by Economy Lube & Tire — owner Steve Moxey was a top pro racer at Shannonville back in the late ’80s, and is putting up a $10,000 purse for the Pro Superbike class.
Additional prize money and contingency comes from RACE Moto Series sponsors Lou-Ann Printing, EVAL Consulting, Joe Rocket, Hindle Exhaust and GP Bikes.
Beyond the purse, Colin Fraser and his team will provide coverage of the Pro Superbike race and select supporting-class highlights for broadcast on TSN.

The final RACE Moto event of the season also features Toni Sharpless’s FIM Moto Mini finale. Ohvale GP0 (160cc) and GP2 (190cc) racers compete to see who represents Canada at the FIM Moto Mini World Championship in Valencia, Spain — held alongside the season-finale MotoGP round at Circuit Ricardo Tormo. The Canadian final will be filmed for REV TV.
Sunday’s on-track festivities include an Invitational Vintage parade race featuring riders and bikes from every era of racing at Shannonville. Rumour has it the current CSBK #1 will pilot a vintage Honda Superbike. Stay tuned for more racers and more classic iron.
THE RACER REUNION
Off track it’s just as exciting. RACE Moto is hosting a Saturday night Racer Reunion BBQ — with many former Canadian Champions in attendance, including Jim Allen of Allen’s Corner fame, Lang Hindle, Rueben McMurter and many more.
We’ll also have a great display of vintage race bikes covering five decades of competition at the track known as “The Birthplace of Champions.”
